Description

A mala is a strand of beads traditionally used for counting mantras. Malas have been used for centuries traditionally to repeat mantras 108 times (prayers) during meditation practices. Mala is a Sanskrit term meaning “garland” or “necklace” that is full of symbolism similar in many ways to a rosary. Malas can consist of 108 beads, 54 beads, 27 beads, 21 or even 19 beads. Malas have been used since at least the 10th century as a meditation aid. They allow us to focus the mind on a single pointed task as we work through our meditation. If you practice meditation and yoga, it is believed that a mala can be a powerful tool in the quest for wellness and clearer understanding.

In BIA Mala Institute, the people who came to be disabled after the devastating earthquake in Nepal are getting training in mala making. The team makes Mala, bracelets and other beads accessories of different woods and stones, and designs of their own. Malas of one’s choice can be ordered and our mala team will prepare it.
